A group of 12 students arrived saddle sore but satisfied to the North Sea coast recently after riding the length of the Trans Pennine Trail for charity.
The students, from Garstang Community Academy, had set themselves the target of cycling across the country, from Southport on the Irish Sea to Hornsea in Yorkshire on the North Sea, to raise money for the local ADAM Appeal and the Alzheimer’s Society. The 215 mile trip took them through Liverpool and Manchester, over the Pennines and then on to Goole and Hull in four days, the longest leg of which was an exhausting 73 miles. So far they have collected almost £2,000 from donations to the Virgin Giving web site, and they hope to double the amount from cash donations via friends and family.
The students had spent months training themselves for the ride, riding round the Guild Wheel in Preston and ensuring they were fit and able to complete the gruelling challenge, becoming the second group of riders from the school to tackle the difficult route.
The last team to complete the ride raised almost £5,000 and this year’s riders don’t want to be beaten in the collection department.
