COVID Catch-Up / Funding Use
At Garstang Community Academy, we are committed to ensuring that any gaps in knowledge which have occurred due to the national school closures are filled and that students continue to make progress across all subject areas. In the majority of cases, these gaps will be filled by class teachers as part of the curriculum, through the delivery of high quality teaching and learning, and through a programme of assessment.
Where students have significant gaps, however, it may be necessary for students to receive more focused support. As such, we are using ‘Catch-Up’ funding to provide small group intervention to students across all year groups in the Core areas of Mathematics, English and Science.
Students who will be receiving this intervention support have been selected by Subject Leaders and by class teachers based on their identified specific needs. As we recognise the additional barriers faced by Disadvantaged students, these students have been prioritised for intervention. Students will attend weekly sessions led by subject specialists, focusing on the specific areas of concern identified by class teachers for one half term, in the first instance and a full term if staff consider it necessary.
How will we measure the success of the intervention?
Teaching staff will assess student progress in the specific areas covered by the intervention at the end of the half term period in order to ensure that the intended progress has been made. At this point, students may then continue with intervention if staff consider it necessary or will finish their intervention sessions.
